About
About Clip Novella
Clip Novella is a set of free tools for fiction writers, from a first story to a manuscript out on submission: how long is it, how many pages will it make, can I finish it by the deadline, and how should it look when it goes to an agent or editor.
How it works
Every tool runs in your web browser. Text you paste, word counts you type and files you open are processed on your own device and never uploaded. The writing log and the chapter plan are kept in your browser’s local storage so they are there when you come back; the privacy page lists exactly what is stored and how to clear it.
The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies or cross-site tracking and never receives what you type, paste or open in the tools. There are no ads, no accounts and no cookies.
Where the facts come from
Every rule and figure on these pages links to its source: award rules from SFWA, the World Science Fiction Society, the Horror Writers Association and the World Fantasy Convention; William Shunn’s manuscript format guide and magazines’ own guidelines; KDP’s published paper and margin figures; and Writer Beware, the Association of American Literary Agents and the Authors Guild on scams. Each was checked on 5 November 2026, and time-bound facts carry their dates. Where something could not be confirmed, it was left out rather than guessed. Page and time estimates are estimates, and say what they assume.
What it isn’t
Clip Novella is not a publisher, an agency or a writers’ organisation, and it isn’t connected with any award, magazine or publisher it cites. The scam checklist is general information, not legal advice. Publishers’, agents’ and magazines’ own guidelines always take precedence over anything here.
